Established in the late 1990s, Staghorn is a hobby-turned-thriving business.
“I have a passion for that part of my heritage which is Scotland and all things Scottish. Having worn kilts since I was a teenager in a school pipe band, there has always been a fascination for the variety of patterns and colours and the way tartans visually define clan differences. Now, of course, there are a multitude of tartans for whisky brands, sports clubs, corporations, pipe bands, cities, societies and the like. Apart from that, I have played the bagpipes since I was a kid and have been immersed in Scots culture, music, dance, song and literature ever since.
I realised that there was a serious gap in this country for good quality and affordable Scottish products, did the homework, got my entrepreneurial spirit wound up, put some savings on the line and started trading. A well-constructed business plan gained me much moral support and encouragement from tartan mill suppliers in Scotland and I have never looked back since.
I’ve met some amazing folk along the way. Even after handcrafting hundreds of kilts and perhaps thousands of sporrans, I still get a huge kick when I see the smiles once a customer has drawn his new kilt on.”
